Route Notes: The Mavora Walkway from Taipo Hut to Boundary Hut has recently been re-routed away from the river flats to higher in the hills on the west side of the valley. The poles are easy to follow, but there is virtually no formed track yet along the new route, so it becomes hard on the ankles for much of the four hours traversing across the tussock/bush slopes. The re-routing was done at the request of the private landowner, and also because the old 4WD track in the river flats had eroded away at some water crossings and the area is generally swampy, with sinking steps across soggy ground. One could probably still take the old river flat route.
